The other day, sometime last month, I had posted a blog with the caption 'Change the Headlines Please..'....As if someone at the right place heard or read it....one of the big journos of our time...Dileep Padgaonkar...has written a story in TOI ed page [Apr 10, 2010]..that warmed the cockles of my heart.
Do read, 'Lamp Lit in the Area of Darkness'..talking of a retired IAS officer, who straight went back to mother home, Bihar after superannuation...and sowed the seeds of a potential long term transformation for the have-nots...fighting out with enthusiasm and optimism..the deep rooted class divide in the social milieu.
The story of Mr. SK Sinha, giving free education to the chidren of the economically deprived, emotionally trampled and trying to bring them to the mainstream...to me is a great an initiative as the one started, bloomed and recognised by Dr Younus. For junta interested for more, turn to TOI...hard copy of electronic form..the article [nay, story:)] is titled...'Lamp Lit in an Area of Darkness'....it is inpirational..n has the works of rend positive vibes around....more and more kudos..If you want to know more, and/or contribute try to know more about Shosit Seva Sangh...visit http://www.sssfoundation.com/.... they are also featured in wiki..
Great things are happening..all around...needs a bit of enterprise and willingness to learn and disseminate....can I reiterate that the fourth estate [i include the electronic media here] contributes a great deal to shaping fledging minds and fills a sense of optimism and postive energy to the reader when...postive actions of an unexpected order and highlighted...needless to say most people in some corner of their hearts and minds feel like getting aligned to such and movement and emulating in someway.... Interestly heroes of such stories, would be last persons to pander to the media...and would never have PR departments, the serious ones would probably be so focussed of the core agenda and get so involved in negotiating enormity of the problem...that they wont tom-tom their achievements and wont call for a press-conference.......so they remain largely unknown and unsung till..maybe onday they win the Magasaysay.... And even then, the news will have limited shelf time, for some misjudged reason....[misjudged, cos.. one wd guess, it may have good TRP value if packaged well!!!!.....arent reality shows / competitions that are de-gravitating latent talent in acting/singing/politics getting their due].
Therefore it is imperative that we hunt down such people..maybe every journo shd have a KRA to filing 1 such story per week....and maybe we can have incentives of filing such..and have a national award for bringing to the limelight such unsung heroes
I think I have made my point...and neednt go on further...to summarise..I loved the changed headline...'Lamp Lit in the Area of Darkness'...and am eager to read more of such stories....hopefully consciously dug out from the labyrinthine social milieu...and not just as an afterthought..or just luckily just being hit upon them.....these days blogs and internet give huge access to more stories....and we need not really need to depend upon news agencies and home departments gory stories
Hv a great weekend..:)
