Hang In Thr, Mr. Tharoor…..We guys are growing up!!

I have been following Mr. Tharoor [MT] and his forays in India , with an interest. Its all to do with his professional pedigree. It is not too often that you have an UN Secy Gen could have been vying for a Lok Sabha seat. Ofcos his columns and books have helped in creating an image of well meaning, progressive and rational individual. His articles indicated [the view formed mainly from the articles of STOI] that he quite mysteriously clued on to ground realities of Indian minds and mindsets. So that’s for the intro; and for the risk management [read as… customary caveat], - well with the available info that I on the specific issues that have given MT significant newsbytes, I wouldn’t normally venture to post a blog such as is. But MT pedigree [and the hypothesis implied in the intro] and my point of view on our [Indian] avowed mindsets on publicly acceptable postures and pronouncements make we want to write this. Whats MT been doing, that’s has made us raise eyebrows

Changed Headlines!!....:)

The other day, sometime last month, I had posted a blog with the caption 'Change the Headlines Please..'....As if someone at the right place heard or read it....one of the big journos of our time...Dileep Padgaonkar...has written a story in TOI ed page [Apr 10, 2010]..that warmed the cockles of my heart. Do read, 'Lamp Lit in the Area of Darkness'..talking of a retired IAS officer, who straight went back to mother home, Bihar after superannuation...and sowed the seeds of a potential long term transformation for the have-nots...fighting out with enthusiasm and optimism..the deep rooted class divide in the social milieu. The story of Mr. SK Sinha, giving free education to the chidren of the economically deprived, emotionally trampled and trying to bring them to the mainstream...to me is a great an initiative as the one started, bloomed and recognised by Dr Younus. For junta interested for more, turn to TOI...hard copy of electronic form..the article [nay, story:)] is tit

Change of Place

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls [as they say in Indigo airlines these days....wanting to mk us feel younger!!!]...this is an article I bumped into as I was sifting through my old amipro!!,wordstar and word97 files.....think u ll enjoy the retro matter had written this sometime early 1998....dont hv records of dates, place most likely Kolkota....guess all wd appreciate why i diligently put the date/place in all my writings now:) Apr 4, 2010 BBSR ------- It is difficult to be indifferent to Mumbai City’s pace, liveliness, cosmo culture and professionalism. The infectious charm of the city had rubbed into my system when I decided to shift my base to Calcutta. I was too much hooked to Nariman Point, the Marine Drive, the pubs and discotheques, the late night motor rides along Nepean Sea road and Malabar hills. Not to mention its featherless bipeds, who are a treat to watch. I was so engrossed in living my last days in the city, that, I failed to sit back and apprehend what might happe

The Other Syndromes...

There are so many thoughts swirling in my sub-conscious mind. But none automatically de-gravitating to be a comprehensible subject of attention itself. But i nonetheless feel like blogging. I know something meaningful will comeup as I continue to dabble around. There were hazaar syndromes the Babur Syndrome, the TN Seshan Syndrome...and then the Arrived Syndrome...which has already been introduced in the earlier blog...well it would be too tongue in cheek...so probably I wont write it, till I think of an elegant way of presenting it. The Babur Syndrome....is simply...how to do effective posturing, using limited resources...how a small company behaves like a big company....how one covers ones weakness by projecting well something, someone else really appreciates...so that he or she doesnt really feel the need to check upon the key thing....Thats the way Babur, pysched out Ibrahim Lodhi in the First Battle of Panipat...or thas what the history books and Amar Chirta Kathas have put it and

The New York Syndrome….

Well, this could have as much been a Bombay syndrome or New Delhi syndrome or for that matter any other place syndrome. Guess New York gets the cake, because maybe more people in this world might have a loftier sense for New York than Bombay or New Delhi or any other place that could have found a place in the title….or a greater percentage New Yorkers probably have a loftier sense of their city [compared to other cities], than residents of other cities. So whats this syndrome…that has an intro more of a long DI ques aka CAT….[for the those who are masters of their own…who never need to know whas DI or CAT..…DI=data interpretation…with that clue CAT now would be a cakewalk for some…CAT=Common Admission Test, b-school wala] Well well, lemme move to the main prattle. Prattle nonetheless. A guy in Bombay, would not know where the unknown village Jhumri Talaia is; whereas our man from Jhumri Talia would know about Bombay well enough [without having ever visited] to speak about the Juhus, th
